Catastrophic Thinking

A meteor hits McAllen Texas
sends a sonic boom but doesn’t
even call his own mother.
She fears he has broken
up in the atmosphere.
She searches the sky for her
thousand-pound baby breaking
into the troposphere.
I worry my children
have been hit by a meteor
in McAllen Texas.
They live in New York
but like to travel
in beams of light creating sonic booms.
I haven’t heard from them in years
search for them in the night
fear each siren is taking them
a second time, a final time, I’m
hoping some star will text me back.
